The Professional Scope of Practice
Acupuncture is a modality under Traditional Chinese Medicine that is used to treat disharmonies in body function, using the meridian theory to influence the flow of the body’s energy and other life substances in order to restore harmony. Acupuncture has been proven as an effective pain management tool, as well as other clinical conditions, and is widely accepted as an adjunct to other medical skills. This program qualifies for 116.75 CMTP CEU’s.
Licensing
The practice of Acupuncture and Traditional Chinese Medicine are both regulated under the Regulated Health Professions Act in the Province of Ontario. Acupuncture has the special distinction of being included in the Scopes of Practice of several Regulated Health Care Professions and therefore, those individuals who have Acupuncture already included in their respective Scopes of Practice do not need to belong to the new regulatory college but, they can only practice Acupuncture within the Scope of Practice of their Regulated Health Profession.
This means that those Regulated Health Professionals who have Acupuncture included in their Scope of Practice or who are permitted to go below the dermis will be able to continue to practice under their own regulatory college.
