This course will provide an overview

Coronal Polishing
This course will provide the
fundamental knowledge of indications
and contraindication of self, select
and coronal polishing techniques.
This course will also provide the
fundamental knowledge of all hard
and soft deposits and the
implication of each deposit in oral
health. The student will be able to
describe abrasive agents and their
various uses as well as categories
of Intrinsic/Extrinsic polishing. |

Desensitizing Agents
This course will provide the
fundamental knowledge and
understanding of the characteristics
and methods used with desensitizing
agents. The student will have a
general knowledge of the sites,
characteristics and reactions of
topical anesthetic. |

FLTA 103 |
|
Fluoride Therapy and Topical
Anesthetics
This course will provide fundamental
knowledge of systemic and topical
fluorides. The student will be able
to differentiate between clients who
will benefit from fluoride therapy
programs and those who will not.
The student will be able to identify
the rationale for specific uses of
fluoride. The Level II DA will be
able to use these valuable tools to
help in the prevention of disease. |

LVAP 103 |

Liners, Varnishes and Amalgam Polish
This course will provide the
fundamental knowledge for the
student to understand and perform a
variety of Level II duties. The
student will understand the
indication, application and
contraindications of both liners and
varnishes and also the proper
selection and mixing of materials. |

PFSE 103 |
|
Pit and Fissure Sealants
This module is designed to instruct
the student in the specific
knowledge and practice for the
intra-oral skill of application of
pit and fissure sealants. A dentist
will indicate that teeth are
suitable to be sealed against
bacterial activity using enamel
sealants, the dental assistant is
able to complete the steps in the
treatment procedure for a client. |

PTED 103 |
|
Patient Education
This module will prepare the dental
assistant student to be able to
motivate a client to change
behavioural patterns and develop and
maintain sound dental habits
throughout their life. Students will
learn techniques to teach, reinforce
and change attitudes and behaviours
and to provide preventive services
for the client that will help them
to understand the causes of dental
disease and the ways to prevent it. |

Preliminary Impressions – Diagnostic
Casts
This course will provide the
fundamental knowledge for the
student to have the common knowledge
to select and prepare required
materials for various clients. The
student will also be able to
prepare, evaluate (based on proper
landmarks) and take study models. |

RADR 103 |
|
Radiology Review
This course will allow the students
the opportunity to further develop
practical competence in exposure of
intra and extra oral radiographs,
processing and mounting of x-rays
and maintenance of radiographic
equipment. Students will be
supervised and will be evaluated on
their performance in the dental
public clinic. |

WBLA 103 |

Whitening and Bleaching Agents
This module will introduce the
students to the products and
techniques currently available to
the dental client to lighten
discoloured and stained teeth.
Students will practice whitening
techniques on a dentoform in pre
clinical/laboratory situations. |
