AREB 107/ AREB 207 120

Advanced Rehabilitation
Available to students registered in the Advanced Standing Sports Injury Therapy™ program only, this course presents information on the most current state of knowledge in sports injury rehabilitation and athlete conditioning.  The course will examine the components of a successful rehabilitation program, developing a specific program to suit the needs of a particular athlete or sport and methods to evaluate the success of the rehabilitation program.

ADVT 107 150

Advanced Techniques
Available to students registered in the Advanced Standing Sports Injury Therapy™ program only, this course is delivered in a regular in class format.  This course covers the theory and techniques of the Osteopathic medicine related techniques of Muscle Energy, Strain-Counterstrain and Myofascial Release.  Eighty Percent Attendance is Mandatory for successful completion of this course.

ANAT 107 120

Anatomy
Available to students registered in the Advanced Standing Sports Injury Therapy™ program only, this course serves to solidify the knowledge base of the student in the subject area of anatomy.  Both regional and systematic approaches are used to present the material.  Hands on palpatory skills are also taught as a key component of this course.

Assessment
Available to students registered in the Advanced Standing Sports Injury Therapy™ program only, this course presents the theoretical and practical skill necessary to develop an impression, index of suspicion and differential assessment of the patient’s physical condition or specific injuries.

BMEC 107 90

Biomechanics
Available to students registered in the Advanced Standing Sports Injury Therapy™ program only, this course provides the student with the knowledge needed to analyze complex body movements utilizing basic principles of physics.  Students acquire the ability to analyze static and dynamic joint mechanics, aiding in the student’s ability to develop functional rehabilitation programs for their athletes.

Business / Documentation
Available to students registered in the Advanced Standing Sports Injury Therapy™ Program only, this course provides the student with the tools necessary to operate a business successfully. The student is presented with the necessary business and government materials and regulations needed, including information on completing insurance forms and Motor Vehicle Collision paperwork under legislation C-59

CLIN 107/ CLIN 207/ CLIN 307 420

Clinic
Students registered in all Sports Injury Therapy™ Programs must participate in Clinic Placement.  Students gain practical experience through working in a clinical setting.  The student registered in the part time program may distribute their hours as follows: 150 hours from massage clinic and outreach, 130 hours from their employment, 120 Hours through observation and participation in the student sports injury clinic at the college.

Communications
Available to students registered in the Advanced Standing Sports Injury Therapy™ program only, this course presents information on the client/therapist relationship and ethics within the context of The Massage Therapy Act and College of Massage Therapists of Ontario Standards of Practice.

EMER 107/ EMR 207 90

Emergency Care
Available to students registered in the Advanced Standing Sports Injury Therapy™ program only, this course is delivered in two parts.  EMER 107 is the Canadian Red Cross Emergency Medical Responder Course.  This course meets the Paramedic Association of Canada Occupational Competencies Profile for an Emergency Medical Responder.  EMER 207 provides the student with sport specific injury assessment skills.  This course builds on the knowledge from EMER 107.

EXPY 107 120

Exercise Physiology
Available to students registered in the Advanced Standing Sports Injury Therapy™ program only, this course is delivered in a regular in class format.  This course focuses on the physiology of the body while engaging in exercise or sporting activity.  It examines the physiological changes and processes that are at work.  This course contains both theoretical and laboratory components.

FPMT 107/ FPMT 207 400

Field Placement
Students registered in all Sports Injury Therapy™ Programs must participate in Field Placement.  Students gain practical experience through working with local sporting teams as a team therapist.  Students participate in all types of sport and events.

HYDR 107 60

Hydrotherapy
Available to students registered in the Advanced Standing Sports Injury Therapy™ program only, the student will learn the application of hot and cold water as a therapeutic tool that can be incorporated into treatment plans for various patients.

IPHA 107 60

Introductory Pharmacology
Available to students registered in the Advanced Standing Sports Injury Therapy™ program only, this course is delivered in a regular in class format covering the topics of “Therapeutic Medications” and “Performance Enhancement and Social Drugs”.

THTN 107/ THTN 207 270

Massage Theory and Technique
Available to students registered in the Advanced Standing Sports Injury Therapy™ program only, this course will present the current understanding of physiological effects of massage therapy through the application of Swedish style techniques.  The student will learn to work in a sensitive, caring and reasoning manner based on the knowledge of tissue behaviour and needs, the effects of massage therapy on body tissues and systems.

MODL 107 120

Modalities
Available to students registered in the Advanced Standing Sports Injury Therapy™ program only, this course provides the student with the theoretical and practical application knowledge necessary for safe application of electrical therapeutic modalities.  The modalities covered include, Ultrasound, Electrical Muscle Stimulation, Micro-current, Interferential Current, Transcutaneous Electrical Nerve Stimulation and LASER.

PATH 107/ PATH 207 120

Pathology
Available to students registered in the Advanced Standing Sports Injury Therapy™ program only, this course introduces the fundamental concepts of cell injury and death, consequent tissue damage and ultimately the death of the body.  This course also examines the human body and the abnormal processes that lead to disease states.

Physiology
Available to students registered in the Advanced Standing Sports Injury Therapy™ program only, this course serves to solidify the knowledge base of the student in the subject area of the functioning of the human body and the physical and chemical factors that control these processes.

Psychology of Sport
Available to students registered in the Advanced Standing Sports Injury Therapy™ program only, this course presents information on the psychology associated with sports participation and on the injured athlete.

Protective Techniques
Available to students registered in the Advanced Standing Sports Injury Therapy™ program only, this course is delivered in a regular in class format.  This is a practical course designed to give the student experience in applying support techniques using a variety of materials.  This course also covers the principles of design and fitting of protective equipment.

RESE 107 60

Research and Critical Thinking
Available to students registered in the Advanced Standing Sports Injury Therapy™ program only, this course introduces the student to the fundamental concepts of research and associated methodologies.  The student will also learn the concept of critical analysis of research articles.  This will allow the student to become an informed consumer of research.  The student will be able to utilize this knowledge to improve their own clinical practices upon certification.

Sports Massage Theory and Techniques
Available to students registered in the Advanced Standing Sports Injury Therapy™ program only, this course presents the theory and techniques of Sports Massage Therapy.  Topics covered include: Pre-event Sports Massage, Post-event Sports Massage, Training and Conditioning Massage.

Sports Nutrition
Available to students registered in the Advanced Standing Sports Injury Therapy™ program only, this course presents information on the subject of nutrition, the components of proper nutrition, the impact of sport participation on nutrition and the importance of proper nutrition to the athlete.

Treatments
Available to students registered in the Advanced Standing Sports Injury Therapy™ program only, this course presents material on the systematic approach to the investigation and treatments of numerous conditions causing pain and dysfunction in the various systems of the body.
